A basic course in the chemistry sequence for beginning college students. The general principles of elementary chemistry, its laws, theories, and simple calculations are stressed. Topics covered include: scientific measurement using the metric system, atomic structure and motion, principles of chemical bonding, the mole concept, chemical equations, gases, liquids and solutions, simple acid-base theory, and introduction to chemical equilibrium, chemical kinetics, electrochemistry, and radioactivity principles. Three hours lecture, three hours laboratory per week.
