Faculty Advisors and Mentors

Each student from the time of his/her admittance is assigned a faculty advisor and mentor. First-year students are advised by the staff of the Academic Success Center. When a student has declared a major, he/she transitions from working the Academic Success Center staff to working with a faculty advisor in the major area the student has declared. The department chairperson initiates the faculty advisor assignment for the student. Thereafter, the advisor works with the student in mapping career pathways, collaborating on registration processes, etc. Concerning registration, the faculty advisor must approve each semester’s course schedule. Students should consult with their advisors about their program several times a year.

Mentors may be faculty advisors or other College officials who serve as resource persons and “friends” to students on campus with whom they can share an experience and question(s) about campus facilities, services, procedures, and resolution to problems.
