Prior to graduation, students must take and meet departmental standards on comprehensive examinations in written format. The performing and visual arts, and other units when approved, may require oral interviews, performance, and/or exhibitions to also demonstrate proficiency in the declared major. The examination is referred to as the Senior Departmental Exit Examination. Each academic department establishes the requirements of the Senior Departmental Exit Examination and determine the nature, content, and proficiency level students must obtain on the examinations. Students must register through their academic departments to take the senior examination at least one semester prior to their anticipated semester of graduation. Academic department personnel administering the examination will publish an examination schedule.
