EDU 342: Planning Mathematics Instruction Informed by Student Data

This course integrates mathematics content and pedagogy and is specifically designed for students majoring in early childhood, elementary, and/or special education, referred to as teacher candidates, focusing on effective methods of teaching mathematics to K-6 students. The mathematics content focuses on developing an understanding of the statistical problem-solving process, including data collection and analysis, theoretical and experimental probabilities of simple and compound events, and defining samples from identified populations. The pedagogical focus emphasizes the ability to assess, plan, and design meaningful student-related contexts for learning, which includes the development and use of classroom assessments to determine student competencies and learning needs (e.g., dyscalculia) to provide feedback, improve instruction, and monitor learning. This course requires field placement in grades 4-6.
